Gingivosis
Gingivosis is a condition in which the gums become swollen, red, and easily bleed. It is caused by the buildup of plaque and bacteria on the teeth. Plaque is a sticky, colorless film that forms when bacteria in the mouth mixes with saliva and certain foods. Over time, the plaque hardens and forms tartar, which can irritate the gums and cause them to become swollen, red, and tender. In some cases, gingivitis can also cause bad breath, receding gums, and loose teeth. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease, and it can be reversed with proper oral hygiene, including brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and regular dental checkups. Treatment may also include special mouth rinses and antibiotics to treat any infections that may have caused the gingivitis. If left untreated, gingivitis can lead to a more severe form of gum disease called periodontitis, which can cause tooth loss.
