Embelin

Embelin (2,5-dihydroxy-3-undecyl-1,4-benzoquinone) is a naturally occurring para-benzoquinone isolated from dried berries of Embelia ribes plants. Embelin has a wide spectrum of biological activities, including antioxidant, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, analgesic, anthelmintic, antifertility and antimicrobial.

Embelin is a natural chemical compound primarily found in the fruits of the Embelia ribes plant, which is native to regions of Asia, including India. It belongs to the class of compounds known as quinones, characterized by their cyclic structure with two oxygen atoms.

Embelin has attracted attention in scientific research due to its potential medicinal properties. It has been studied for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. Additionally, embelin has shown promise in various preclinical studies for its ability to inhibit certain enzymes and pathways involved in disease processes, making it a subject of interest in drug discovery and development.
