Uricolytic
Uricolytic activity is the ability to reduce the amount of uric acid in the body by either speeding up its metabolism or preventing its synthesis. Uric acid is a by-product of the breakdown of purines, a type of organic compound found in certain foods, such as organ meats, fish, asparagus, and beer. High levels of uric acid in the blood can lead to gout and kidney stones. Uricolytics are used to reduce the level of uric acid in the blood, and they can be either synthetic or natural. Synthetic uricolytics are drugs, such as allopurinol, which inhibit the production of uric acid in the body, while natural uricolytics are herbs and supplements that break down purines and reduce the amount of uric acid in the body. Both synthetic and natural uricolytics can be effective in reducing uric acid levels and preventing gout and kidney stones.
