Stimulant
A stimulant is a substance that increases activity in the body, usually by stimulating the central nervous system. Stimulants can increase alertness, concentration, energy levels, and even physical activity. Examples of stimulants include caffeine, amphetamines, cocaine, and nicotine. Stimulants are used for a variety of medicinal purposes, including treating fatigue, depression, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Stimulants may also be prescribed to reduce the likelihood of seizures in epilepsy patients, and to help people with narcolepsy stay awake. Stimulants can also be used to help with weight loss, though this is not recommended due to potential negative side effects. Stimulants can also be abused, and can have serious health consequences if taken in excessive amounts or used in conjunction with other drugs.
