Sialagogue
A sialagogue is a type of drug that increases saliva production. It is typically used to treat dry mouth, which can be caused by a variety of medical conditions such as Sjogren's Syndrome, certain medications, and radiation therapy. The drug works by stimulating the salivary glands, causing them to produce more saliva. This action helps to restore the balance of saliva in the mouth, which helps to reduce the symptoms of dry mouth. Sialagogues are usually taken orally, but may also be administered topically or sublingually. Common sialagogues include pilocarpine and cevimeline.
