Saluretic

Saluretics are a class of drugs that are used to reduce the amount of salt and water in the body. These drugs act by blocking the action of a hormone in the kidneys called aldosterone. Aldosterone is responsible for regulating the amount of sodium and water in the body, and when its action is blocked, the amount of salt and water is reduced. Saluretics are often used to treat high blood pressure and other cardiovascular conditions, as well as edema, or fluid retention. They are also sometimes used as part of a treatment plan for congestive heart failure, or CHF. In addition, saluretics are sometimes used to treat certain types of kidney disease, such as nephrotic syndrome.
