Photocarcinogenic

Photocarcinogenic activity is the ability of a chemical or other substance to cause cancer when exposed to light. This term is usually used in reference to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which is particularly dangerous when it comes to skin cancer. UV radiation can damage the DNA in cells, which can lead to the formation of cancerous tumors. Certain chemicals, such as some of those found in sunscreens, can increase the risk of skin cancer when exposed to UV radiation, leading to photocarcinogenic activity. Other substances can also cause photocarcinogenic activity, such as certain types of pharmaceutical drugs.
