Mast Cell Stabilizer

Mast cell stabilizers are drugs that help control the body's allergic reactions by stabilizing the release of histamine and other chemicals from mast cells. These cells are found throughout the body and are responsible for producing histamine and other inflammatory mediators when the body is exposed to allergens. Mast cell stabilizers work by preventing the release of these chemicals, thereby reducing the severity of allergic reactions. Examples of mast cell stabilizers include cromolyn sodium, ketotifen, and nedocromil sodium. They are often used to treat conditions such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, urticaria, and atopic dermatitis.
