Lipoxygenase Inhibitor

Lipoxygenase inhibitors are molecules that block the actions of the enzyme lipoxygenase. Lipoxygenase is an enzyme that plays a role in the production of inflammatory compounds called leukotrienes. Leukotrienes are produced in response to an injury or infection and can cause inflammation, allergic reactions, and other destructive processes. By interfering with the action of lipoxygenase, these inhibitors can reduce the production of leukotrienes and limit the associated inflammatory responses. This action makes lipoxygenase inhibitors useful in the treatment of asthma, allergies, and other inflammatory disorders. In addition to their anti-inflammatory effects, lipoxygenase inhibitors have also been reported to have antioxidant and anti-cancer effects.
