Leukocytosis

Leukocytosis is a condition in which there is an abnormal increase in the number of white blood cells (WBCs) in the blood. White blood cells are a type of infection-fighting cell in the body that help to protect against bacteria, viruses, and other foreign invaders. Leukocytosis is often caused by an infection, inflammation, or tissue damage, although it can also be due to certain medications, such as corticosteroids. It can be either acute (lasting only a short time) or chronic (lasting for a long period of time). Leukocytosis can have both beneficial and harmful effects. On the one hand, it can help the body fight off infections and other foreign invaders, because white blood cells are responsible for attacking and destroying these invaders. On the other hand, it can also cause damage to the body, as excessive numbers of white blood cells can lead to inflammation, tissue damage, and other abnormal changes in the body. Leukocytosis can be treated with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, and other medications, depending on the underlying cause of the condition. In some cases, it can also be treated with lifestyle changes, such as getting more rest and exercise, and eating a healthy diet.
