Lacrimatory
Lacrimatory agents, also known as tear gas, are chemical compounds that are used as riot control agents and are designed to cause temporary irritation and pain of the eyes. These agents work by irritating the eyes and causing them to tear up and fill with water. This reaction is caused by the agent’s ability to stimulate the sensory nerve endings in the eyes, resulting in an increased production of tears. The most commonly used lacrimatory agents are capsaicin, CN, CS, and pepper spray. The primary purpose of lacrimatory agents is to incapacitate people by causing temporary blindness and disorientation. This allows law enforcement officers to gain control of a situation without resorting to physical force. The irritation caused by the agents typically subsides within minutes, and the affected person is usually unharmed. However, there are some potential risks associated with exposure to these agents, including respiratory and skin irritation, as well as potential long-term damage to the eyes.
