Estrogenic
Estrogenic activity is a type of activity seen in hormone-like compounds which mimic the effects of the hormone estrogen. Estrogen is a type of hormone produced by the ovaries in women, which is responsible for regulating the reproductive cycle and for the development of secondary sexual characteristics. Estrogenic activity is exhibited by a range of compounds which have the ability to bind to the same receptors as estrogen, thus mimicking its effects. This can have both beneficial and adverse effects, depending on the compound. For example, some compounds may be used to treat menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, while others can increase the risk of breast cancer.
