Contraceptive
Contraceptive medications are medications that are used to prevent pregnancy. These drugs work by preventing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus, and thinning the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg. Contraceptive medications are typically taken orally, although other forms of administration are available. The most common types of contraceptive medications are birth control pills, the patch, the ring, and the shot. These medications are highly effective when taken as directed, but they do not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
