Bronchosis

Bronchosis is a medical condition in which the bronchial tubes become inflamed and irritated due to an infection, environmental irritants, or other causes. The resulting symptoms can include difficulty breathing, coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Treatment of bronchitis often includes the use of bronchodilators, anti-inflammatory medications, and antibiotics. Bronchodilators such as albuterol and ipratropium work to relax the muscles in the bronchial tubes, allowing for easier breathing. Anti-inflammatory medications such as corticosteroids can reduce inflammation in the airways and help to reduce the severity of symptoms. Antibiotics may be prescribed to treat a bacterial infection if it is present. In addition, lifestyle changes such as avoiding smoking, avoiding exposure to irritants, and increasing fluid intake may be recommended in order to reduce symptoms and prevent further exacerbations.
