Antimelanomic
Antimelanomic agents, also known as melanin inhibitors, are medications that can be used to treat conditions related to abnormal skin pigmentation, such as melasma and vitiligo. These medications work by blocking the production of melanin, which is the pigment that gives skin its color. In some cases, these agents may also reduce the growth of existing melanin-producing cells. The most common types of antimelanomic agents used to treat skin discoloration are hydroquinone, tretinoin, and azelaic acid. These medications are applied topically to the affected area and can lighten the affected skin over time. They may also help to prevent further discoloration from occurring.
