Antilactagogue
Antilactagogue is a type of medicine used to reduce or prevent lactation (milk production) in nursing mothers. It is generally used when a woman does not wish to continue breastfeeding or when a woman’s milk supply is no longer adequate to meet the needs of her baby. Antilactagogue medications work by blocking the release of the hormone prolactin, which stimulates milk production. This action reduces or eliminates the production of milk. Antilactagogue medications may also be used to treat certain medical conditions, such as hyperprolactinemia, which is an abnormally high level of prolactin in the blood.
