Anticataract

Anticataract is a type of medication that is used to treat cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s lens that can cause vision loss. Anticataracts drugs work by preventing the formation of the proteins in the lens that cause the clouding of the lens and by dissolving the existing proteins that cause the clouding. The most commonly used anticataract medications are cholinergics, which work by increasing the flow of fluid in the lens and by increasing the production of protein-dissolving enzymes. Other anticataract medications include corticosteroids, which can reduce inflammation in the lens and increase the production of protein-dissolving enzymes, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). In addition, certain vitamins and minerals, such as lutein and zinc, can also be used to help prevent the formation of cataracts.
