Antibacterial
Antibacterial activity is the ability of a substance to inhibit or kill bacteria. This activity can be due to the presence of natural antibiotics, synthetic antibiotics, or other agents. Antibacterial activity is an important factor in the prevention and treatment of infections caused by bacteria. Antibiotics are the most common type of antibacterial agents, and they work by either killing bacteria directly or by preventing them from reproducing. Other agents, such as certain antifungals, antivirals, and antiseptics, can also have antibacterial activity. Antibacterial activity is usually measured in terms of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) or minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). The MIC is the lowest concentration of an antibacterial agent that will inhibit the growth of bacteria, while the MBC is the lowest concentration of an antibacterial agent that will kill bacteria.
