Xerostomia

Xerostomia, also known as dry mouth, is a condition in which the salivary glands in the mouth produce a reduced amount of saliva. Xerostomia is a common condition that can result from a variety of medical conditions and treatments, such as radiation therapy to the head and neck, some medications, and Sjögren's syndrome. The decreased saliva can cause a number of uncomfortable symptoms, such as a dry feeling in the mouth, a burning sensation, difficulty swallowing, and an altered sense of taste. It can also lead to an increased risk of cavities, gum disease, and other oral infections. Treatment will depend on the cause of the condition, but can include medications, artificial saliva, and lifestyle changes.
