Xerostoma
Xerostoma is a condition caused by decreased saliva production. It is also known as dry mouth and can be caused by a variety of conditions, including medications, dehydration, and autoimmune diseases. Xerostoma can cause a range of symptoms, such as bad breath, difficulty swallowing, difficulty speaking, and a burning sensation in the mouth. It can also lead to a decrease in taste, an increase in cavities, and an increased risk of infection. Treatment usually involves the use of saliva substitutes, such as artificial saliva, and the use of medications to stimulate saliva production. In more severe cases, surgery may be needed. Xerostoma is often a chronic condition, but with proper management, it can be managed successfully.
