Vaginosis
Vaginosis is a condition that occurs when the balance of bacteria in the vagina becomes disrupted. It is caused by an overgrowth of certain types of bacteria, such as Gardnerella vaginalis, Mycoplasma hominis, and Mobiluncus species. Symptoms of Vaginosis can include an unusual fishy odor, a grayish-white discharge, and itching or burning around the vagina. It is generally treated with antibiotics such as metronidazole or clindamycin. It is important to note that Vaginosis is not a sexually transmitted infection, though it can be spread through sexual contact. Risk factors for Vaginosis include douching, the use of scented soaps or bubble baths, and poor hygiene.
