Ulcus cruris
Ulcus Cruris (or venous leg ulcer) is a wound on the lower leg that develops due to chronic venous insufficiency and/or deep vein thrombosis. It is caused by a disruption of the normal flow of blood to the leg, resulting in the accumulation of fluid in the tissues. This accumulation of fluid causes the skin to become thin and fragile, leading to the formation of an ulcer. Ulcer cruris can be slow to heal and often requires long-term medical management and wound care. Treatment often includes compression therapy, elevation of the leg, topical medications, and medications to reduce inflammation and promote healing. Surgery may be recommended in severe cases to restore blood flow to the leg.
