Trichophytosis
Trichophytosis is a fungal infection of the skin, nails, and hair caused by the organism Trichophyton. It is one of the most common fungal skin infections in humans, and it is highly contagious. Symptoms of Trichophytosis can include redness, itching, scaling, and crusting of the skin. It can also cause bald patches on the scalp and yellow-white patches on the nails. In some cases, the infection can spread to the nails, causing them to become brittle, thick, or discolored. Trichophytosis is most commonly contracted through direct contact with an infected person or an animal. It can also be contracted by touching items or surfaces that have been contaminated by the fungus, such as towels, clothing, or bedding. Treatment typically involves antifungal medications, either taken orally or applied directly to the affected area. In some cases, a topical antifungal cream may be prescribed to help reduce the severity of the infection. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary for intravenous antifungal treatment.
