Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. It is most commonly spread through unprotected vaginal intercourse, but can also be spread through anal, oral, and manual sexual contact. Symptoms of Trichomoniasis can vary from person to person and can range from mild to severe. Common symptoms include itching, burning, and a foul-smelling discharge from the vagina or penis. It is important to note that some people may have the infection and not show any symptoms. If left untreated, Trichomoniasis can cause an increased risk of contracting other STIs, including HIV. Treatment for Trichomoniasis includes antibiotics, typically a single dose of metronidazole or tinidazole. It is important to note that sexual partners must also be treated to avoid re-infection.
