Striae gravidarum

Striae gravidarum (SG) are a type of skin condition that typically occurs during pregnancy. It is characterized by reddish or purple lines on the abdomen, buttocks, breasts, and thighs. SG is caused by the rapid stretching of the skin due to the enlargement of the uterus and the increasing size of the baby. This stretching of the skin is often more pronounced in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. SG is not considered a serious medical condition and is generally a cosmetic issue. However, it can cause physical discomfort and emotional distress for some women. The condition usually resolves itself after the baby is born as the skin returns to its normal size and shape. Additionally, treatments like creams, moisturizers, and laser therapy can be used to reduce the severity of the condition.
