Stiffness

Stiffness is a condition that causes a person to experience tightness, pain, and reduced mobility in the muscles and joints. It can be caused by a number of medical conditions, such as arthritis, bursitis, and fibromyalgia. It can also be caused by certain medications, such as some anti-inflammatory drugs. Stiffness can affect any part of the body but is most commonly felt in the back, neck, shoulders, and hips. Stiffness can limit a person's ability to move, making everyday activities such as walking and even sitting in a chair difficult. Symptoms of stiffness include pain, tightness, reduced range of motion, and a feeling of heaviness in the affected area. Treatment for stiffness may include physical therapy, stretching, exercise, and medications, such as pain relievers. In some cases, surgery may be necessary.
