Scabies

Scabies is an infestation of the skin caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. These mites burrow beneath the skin and lay eggs, causing an itchy rash and red bumps. Scabies is highly contagious and can be spread through skin-to-skin contact or contact with contaminated clothing, bedding, or furniture. It is most common in crowded living conditions such as nursing homes, dormitories, and childcare centers. Treatment for scabies includes the use of topical medications such as permethrin or ivermectin, although these medications may not be effective in some cases. In addition, infected clothing, bedding, and furniture should be washed in hot water and vacuumed.
