Restlessness
Restlessness is a state of physical or mental unease or anxiety that can cause a person to be unable to stay in one place for long periods of time or to move around constantly. It can also cause difficulty in concentrating, irritability, and difficulty sleeping. This condition is sometimes referred to as akathisia and is associated with various medical conditions, including but not limited to Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and depression. Restlessness may be caused by a variety of factors, including medication side effects, chronic pain, or anxiety. It may also be a symptom of an underlying medical condition, such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Restlessness can be managed with lifestyle changes, such as engaging in physical activity and relaxation techniques, as well as medication. Treatment may also include counseling, psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and/or lifestyle changes. It is important to work with a doctor to develop an appropriate treatment plan that addresses the underlying cause of the restlessness.
