Prostatosis
Prostatosis is a condition in which the prostate gland becomes swollen and enlarged. It is also referred to as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is a common condition, particularly in men over the age of 50. It is caused by a combination of hormonal and genetic factors, as well as lifestyle factors. Symptoms of prostatosis may include frequent urination, difficulty starting or maintaining a stream of urine, weak or interrupted urine flow, and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. In more advanced cases, it can lead to bladder and kidney infections. Treatment for prostatosis may include medications to reduce the size of the prostate, lifestyle changes to reduce the symptoms, and surgery to remove part of the prostate if needed. The goal of treatment is to reduce the symptoms and improve quality of life.
