Proctocele

A proctocele is a condition that affects the rectum, where the rectum bulges or drops into the vagina. This occurs when the muscles and ligaments that support the rectum weaken or become stretched out, allowing the rectum to protrude into the vagina. The condition is more common in women, and can cause symptoms such as difficulty passing stool, pain during sex, and a feeling of pressure in the rectum and vagina. It may also cause urinary symptoms such as frequency, urgency and incontinence. Treatment options may include lifestyle changes, such as avoiding constipation, and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles. In more severe cases, surgery may be necessary to repair the weakened muscles and ligaments.
