Porphyria

Porphyria is a group of inherited diseases that affect the body's ability to produce heme, an important molecule in red blood cells. It is caused by an enzyme deficiency in the body, which results in metabolic abnormalities, leading to a variety of signs and symptoms. The most common symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, muscle pain and weakness, fatigue, and skin sensitivity to light. In severe cases, it can cause seizures, mental confusion, and even paralysis. Treatment is usually focused on managing the symptoms and preventing complications, and may involve medications, dietary modifications, and lifestyle changes.
