Photosensitivity
Photosensitivity is a condition in which a person experiences an abnormal reaction to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. This can include sunburns, rashes, and other skin reactions, as well as eye problems. In some cases, photosensitivity can also cause muscle spasms, headaches, or dizziness. Photosensitivity is caused by the body’s inability to process sunlight correctly. In some cases, this difficulty is caused by an underlying medical condition, such as lupus, an autoimmune disorder. In other cases, it can be caused by a medication that a person is taking. Photosensitivity can be managed with lifestyle changes, such as wearing protective clothing and avoiding direct sunlight, and medications. In some cases, avoiding certain medications can also help to reduce the severity of photosensitivity.
