Parturition

Parturition is the medical term for the process of childbirth. It is a complex process that can involve both the mother and the baby. It begins with the onset of labor and ends with the baby being born. During parturition, the muscles of the uterus contract and relax in order to push the baby through the birth canal. The cervix also dilates to allow the baby to pass through. Other signs that labor has started include an increase in the frequency and intensity of contractions, a decrease in the amount of amniotic fluid, breaking of the amniotic sac, and the passing of the mucus plug. It is important that medical professionals monitor the process to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby. Parturition can be a long and difficult process, but with proper medical care, it can be a successful and rewarding experience.
