Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is a medical condition where bones become brittle and weak due to the decrease in bone density. It is caused by a variety of factors, including age, genetics, hormone levels, diet, and lifestyle. Osteoporosis is most common in women who are post-menopausal, as the decrease in estrogen levels can cause a decrease in bone density. Other risk factors include smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and certain medications. Symptoms of Osteoporosis can include bone fractures, back pain, and a decrease in height. In severe cases, Osteoporosis can lead to disability. To diagnose Osteoporosis, doctors may use a bone density test, X-rays, or CT scans. Treatment for Osteoporosis can include medications to improve bone density, hormone replacement therapy, lifestyle changes, and dietary modifications. Exercise, weight-bearing exercises, and adequate calcium and vitamin D intake can also help to prevent and treat Osteoporosis.
