Nyctalopia
Nyctalopia, also known as night blindness, is a medical condition in which a person has difficulty seeing in low light or darkness. It is caused by a deficiency in vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin that is essential for good vision. The condition is characterized by a decreased ability to discern shapes and objects in the dark, difficulty adjusting to low light levels, and a general difficulty in seeing well in the night time. It can also cause a person to be sensitive to bright lights, and may lead to an increased risk for falls and injuries. Nyctalopia can be treated with dietary changes, supplementation with vitamin A, and in some cases, surgery.
