Nocturnal Emissions

Nocturnal Emissions, also commonly referred to as wet dreams, are a physiological phenomenon which occurs during the sleep cycle. During this time, the body releases semen from the penis and causes a spontaneous orgasm. This is due to an increase in hormones and other chemicals during the REM phase of sleep. Nocturnal emissions are a normal, healthy occurrence in males and are not usually a cause for concern. They are more common during adolescence and can be caused by sexual thoughts, dreams, or even physical arousal during sleep. Nocturnal emissions do not usually require any medical treatment, however if they occur frequently, it may be beneficial to speak to a doctor or health care professional.
