Nocturia
Nocturia is a medical condition in which an individual experiences the need to urinate multiple times during the night. It is a common symptom of several illnesses, including heart failure, diabetes, and urinary tract infections. Nocturia is caused by a decrease in the production of a hormone called antidiuretic hormone (ADH) during sleep. This hormone helps to regulate the amount of water that is reabsorbed by the kidneys and returned to the bloodstream. Without the normal amount of ADH, the kidneys are not able to reabsorb as much water, leading to increased production of urine and a need to urinate more frequently. Treatment options for nocturia may include lifestyle changes, medication, or a combination of both.
