Myosis
Myosis is a condition characterized by excessive contraction of the pupil in the eye. It is caused by ocular nerve damage or a systemic disorder. It is a rare condition that is often seen in patients with neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases. When myosis occurs the pupil may become small and reactive to light, or it may remain abnormally small and unresponsive to light. The causes of myosis are still unknown, but it is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic, environmental, and physiological factors. Treatment for myosis usually involves medications, such as topical eye drops or oral medications, to reduce the pupil size. Surgery may also be used to reduce the size of the pupil.
