Morbus Behet
Morbus Behet is a chronic, inflammatory disease of the vascular system that affects the small and medium-sized veins and arteries. This inflammatory disorder can affect the skin, eyes, joints, and sometimes internal organs. It is also known as Behcet’s Disease (BD) or Silk Road Disease. The exact cause of Morbus Behet is unknown, although it is believed to be an autoimmune disorder. Symptoms can vary greatly from person to person and may include recurrent oral and genital ulcers, eye problems, skin lesions, arthritis, and gastrointestinal issues. In some cases, neurological problems can occur. Treatment for Morbus Behet usually involves medications to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system. Corticosteroids, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and/or immunosuppressants may be used. In addition, lifestyle modifications such as avoiding triggers, stress reduction, and a healthy diet can help. Surgery may be necessary in some cases.
