Leukoplakia
Leukoplakia is a condition that is characterized by the presence of white patches on the mucous membranes of the mouth, usually on the tongue, gums, inner cheeks, and lips. It is caused by an overgrowth of cells on the mucous membrane. It is usually a benign condition, but in some cases, it can be a sign of a more serious underlying condition. The white patches can be slightly raised, and they can vary in size and shape. Leukoplakia can be caused by a variety of factors, such as smoking, chewing tobacco, or irritation from dentures or braces. Treatment for Leukoplakia typically involves removing the irritant or trigger that is causing the white patches. In some cases, a biopsy may be performed to rule out any underlying medical conditions. In most cases, Leukoplakia does not require treatment and will resolve on its own over time.
