Leukopenia
Leukopenia is a condition in which the number of white blood cells (leukocytes) in the blood is lower than normal. White blood cells are a key component of the immune system, and their primary purpose is to fight infection. Leukopenia can be caused by a variety of conditions, including certain medications, infections, and cancers. Symptoms of leukopenia can include fatigue, fever, and increased susceptibility to infections. Treatment of leukopenia usually involves treating the underlying cause and may include antibiotics, antiviral medications, and/or chemotherapy. In some cases, leukopenia may be a sign of a more serious underlying condition and additional testing may be necessary.
