Leukemia

Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. It is caused by an abnormal production of white blood cells (WBCs). These cells grow and divide rapidly, crowding out healthy cells. This leads to anemia, fatigue, and increased risk of infection. Leukemia can be divided into either acute or chronic forms, depending on how quickly the disease progresses. Acute leukemia progresses quickly and requires immediate treatment, while chronic leukemia progresses more slowly and may not require treatment. Treatment for leukemia usually involves chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or stem cell transplants.
