Induration
Induration is a hardening of a tissue or organ caused by inflammation, trauma, or disease. It usually occurs when tissue is exposed to an irritant, such as an infectious agent, and the body begins to produce an excess of proteins in response. This excess production of proteins leads to a thickening of the tissue, resulting in a hardened, indurated area. Induration can be observed in a variety of organs and tissues, including the skin, joints, and internal organs, such as the lungs. Induration can be a sign of many different diseases, including infections, autoimmune disorders, and cancer. In some cases, medical imaging may be used to diagnose the condition. Treatment for induration depends on the underlying cause and may include medications, physical therapy, or surgery.
