Hyperventilation
Hyperventilation is an excessive rate of breathing that leads to an imbalance of gases in the blood, such as a low level of carbon dioxide. It can be caused by a variety of medical conditions, including anxiety, panic attacks, pain, or fever. Symptoms of medical hyperventilation include lightheadedness, dizziness, and tingling around the mouth, hands, and feet. It can also lead to chest pain, muscle spasms, and difficulty breathing. Treatment for hyperventilation includes breathing exercises and relaxation techniques to reduce stress and anxiety. In some cases, medication may be prescribed to help control the symptoms.
