Hyperlipoproteinemia

Hyperlipoproteinemia is a condition in which there is an elevated level of lipoproteins in the blood. Lipoproteins are substances made up of fat and proteins that help transport cholesterol, triglycerides, and other lipids throughout the body. High levels of lipoproteins can increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, stroke, and peripheral artery disease. The condition can be caused by a number of different factors, including genetics, diet, lifestyle, and certain medications. People with Hyperlipoproteinemia are usually treated with lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise, and may also be prescribed medications to help lower their lipoprotein levels. In order to diagnose Hyperlipoproteinemia, a blood test is typically done to measure the levels of lipoproteins. If the test results show an abnormally high level of lipoproteins, the patient may be referred to a specialist for further evaluation and treatment. Treatment can include lifestyle changes, such as a healthier diet and increased physical activity, as well as medications to help lower the lipoprotein levels.
