Hyperchlorhydria
Hyperchlorhydria, also known as excessive stomach acid or acid hypersecretion, is a condition in which the stomach produces too much hydrochloric acid. This increased production of stomach acid can be caused by a variety of factors, including stress, certain medications, lifestyle choices such as smoking and drinking alcohol, and certain medical conditions. Symptoms of hyperchlorhydria can include heartburn, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, and a sour taste in the mouth. Untreated, hyperchlorhydria can lead to more serious conditions such as ulcers, gastritis, and even stomach cancer. Treatment for hyperchlorhydria often involves antacids or other medications that reduce stomach acid production. In some cases, lifestyle modifications such as reducing stress, quitting smoking, and avoiding alcohol may also help.
