Heartburn

Heartburn is a common medical condition that is caused by acid reflux. It is a burning sensation in the chest, just behind the breastbone, that is caused by stomach acid that rises up into the esophagus. It can occur after eating certain foods or drinking certain beverages, and it often happens when lying down or bending over. Heartburn can be a sign of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and it can cause chest pain and discomfort. Treatment for heartburn usually involves lifestyle changes, such as avoiding certain foods, eating smaller meals, and not eating late at night. Medications, such as antacids, H2 blockers, and proton pump inhibitors, can also be used to help reduce the symptoms of heartburn.
