Headache
A headache is a medical condition characterized by pain in the head, scalp, or neck. It is one of the most common afflictions in the world, and is usually caused by tension, stress, tiredness, hunger, or a combination of these factors. Headaches can range from mild to severe and can be either acute or chronic. Acute headaches often last a few hours, while chronic headaches can last for weeks or even months. Headaches can be caused by a variety of factors, including muscle tension, sinus and allergy problems, dehydration, hormonal changes, lack of sleep, and even eyestrain. Other medical causes may include an infection or disease, such as meningitis or a tumor. Treatment for headaches depends on the type and severity of the headache. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen can help reduce the pain. In some cases, a doctor may recommend medications that are specifically designed to treat headaches, such as triptans or ergotamines. Relaxation techniques, such as yoga and meditation, can also help reduce the frequency and severity of headaches. In rare cases, surgery may be necessary to treat certain types of headaches.
