Hay Fever

Hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis, is an allergic reaction to airborne particles. It is caused by an overreaction of the immune system to allergens in the air, such as pollen, dust or pet dander. Symptoms of hay fever include sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, and watery, itchy eyes. Other symptoms may include fatigue, headache, and coughing. Hay fever is a type of hypersensitivity reaction, which is caused by an overactive immune response to environmental allergens. The body produces antibodies against the allergens, which then release chemicals like histamine, causing inflammation, irritation and other symptoms. Treatment for hay fever usually involves avoiding the allergen, taking medications to reduce inflammation and symptoms, and using a nasal spray to help relieve the congestion.
