Globus Hystericus

Globus Hystericus is a medical condition where a person experiences the sensation of a lump in the throat, although there is no physical obstruction. This sensation can cause a person to feel anxious and can lead to difficulty in swallowing. It is not a serious medical condition, but can be very distressing. The exact cause of Globus Hystericus is not known, however it is thought to be linked to psychological factors such as stress, anxiety, depression and insomnia. It is also thought to be linked to physical factors such as allergies, gastroesophageal reflux disease and thyroid problems. Treatment of Globus Hystericus usually involves psychological therapy, such as relaxation techniques and cognitive behavioral therapy, and medications such as antianxiety and antidepressant medications. Surgery is rarely necessary.
